Kinds of links created by correspondences in different Capsule Day threads

SPATIAL LINKS

• Spot link

Example: Tyra & Eliot's night drive down Ridge Ave. spot links with Julie Deery at foot of train wall near Wissahickon station.
• Pivot

Example: Cindy zooms in on City Hall Tower from City Line Avenue; then we're shooting from inside City Hall Tower (like spot link, but capsuler is not shooting from link location).
• Intersection - One thread crosses another in a more or less perpendicular way

Example: cdavid and Eliot at 8th & Market; cdavid heading south, Eliot heading east.
• Mirror (overlap) - Both threads are covering the same ground (visually), but in different directions

Example: Vance and Eliot (eastbound) vs. Neil and cdavid (westbound) in City Hall courtyard
• Parallel (overlap) - Both threads are going along the same route for some distance (more than a hundred feet)

Example: cdavid and Carol Cole from Art Museum to 18th and Spring Garden

NON-SPATIAL LINKS

• Media jump (e.g. photos of murals that are on video; shot of paper and we have the actual paper)

Example: Shots of Philadelphia Inquirer; photo and video of "hands" mural
• List items

Example: Barber jokes that "business is terrible" - several links follow spotlighting businesses that have failed since Capsule Day (e.g. American Appliance, Mellon PSFS, Pier 34)
• Theme link

Example: George McCullough, Julie Deery and Kim Newell all filming shoes hanging from wires - fits with "shoe" theme, which also includes Ron Kanter's Falls Bridge runners
• Visual echo
- like "Theme" only the visual material itself is more strongly interrelated, carrying over an obvious visual motif from one thread to the next
Example: Shot of Meridian demolition (on ladder) leads into shot of mural painting on scaffolding; shot of RV in middle of 15th street leads into shot of 23 bus at same distance
• Jump cut
- Not a link at all, really; just a jump cut.
